Rainfall – Annual Average
Annual average rainfall in the region increases with altitude.  The coast and vast areas of the lowlands of the region received the least rain during the baseline period (less than 750mm annual average).  In contrast, the higher altitude areas within the region, namely the uplands in Northumberland and County Durham, received over double this amount, with between 1500mm and 2100mm of annual average rainfall during the baseline period.
