Days of Snow – Annual Average
The number of days with snow lying appears to be influenced by both altitude and proximity to the coast.  Colder temperatures and increased rainfall are associated with increased altitude.  This is the combination of weather parameters that leads to snowfall.

The upland areas of Upper Weardale experience the greatest amounts of snowfall (with 51 to 71 days of snow lying per year), with the inland and coastal areas the least.
