Future Climate - rainfall     Climate Projection Overview

Rain

Projections of future rainfall are variable across the region, depending on the parameter considered, and differ in magnitude and trend depending on season.  This means that there will be more seasonality in annual rainfall, with more in the winter and less in other months when compared against the baseline.

Key findings are:

  • Daily average rainfall will change as follows:

    • Annual - mostly around 5% reduction, but up to around 10%
down
    • Winter - around 8 to 21% increase
up
    • Spring - up to around 10% reduction
down
    • Summer - around 25 to 37% reduction
down
    • Autumn - small reduction in places, up to around 10% in others
down

  • Extreme rainfall events show variability across the region, with some locations experiencing around 10 to 20% increases, others showing negligible changes, and others experiencing slight decreases.
