Future Climate - Soil Moisture     Climate Projection Overview

  • Soil Moisture
  • UKCIP

Soil Moisture Content is modelled directly by UKCIP02 but not by EARWIG.  Generally soil moisture content is projected to decrease, with the smallest changes in winter and the largest in autumn, then summer.

EARWIG models a parameter called rainfall surplus, which can be used as a surrogate for soil moisture content.  This parameter shows similar tendencies to the UKCIP02 results, although winter rainfall surplus is projected to increase.
