Welcome to the homepage of the North East Climate Change Adaptation study.

This study is the first of its kind.  It is unique because it:

  • covers an entire UK government region;
  • makes projections of climate change at a new and improved scale of resolution compared to previous projections;
  • combines cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art expertise from nationally-recognised professional engineers and scientists with the practical experience of staff working ‘on-the-ground’ within a range of organisations and bodies across the region;
  • considers impacts across a wide range of different sectors; and
  • provides practical advice on adaptation measures.

Climate change is a reality that affects us all and its implications are profoundly important for the North East region. These implications will become more severe over time and we all need to start to adapt our vulnerable systems, assets and management approaches to this challenge now, both individually and collectively.

This study is intended to provide information on the climate changes that the region will face, how these changes will impact on the region’s society, buildings, infrastructure and key economic assets, and what needs to be done now to adapt to the predicted impacts.

A partnership of organisations has led the North East Climate Change Adaptation study.  It is intended that this study provides a catalyst and focus for adaptation action across all sectors – public, business and voluntary – throughout the region.

On this site you can learn about:

  • the study aims, objectives and approach;
  • the present climate across the North East region and how this is projected to change by the 2050s;
  • the impacts this climate change will have on services, assets, communities, business and infrastructure; and
  • what needs to be done to adapt to these impacts.

We hope you enjoy your visit and find it informative and thought-provoking.  If you have any comments, you can Contact Us.

Welcome
